Windows That Last Longer

Energy Efficient

Windows That Last Longer

Any room with windows can be colder in winter and hotter in summer. Windows built with metal based spacers will actually allow heat to be drawn out of a building during winter and heat from the sun to be conducted into a building during summer. Windows with warm edge thermoplastic spacer (TPS) technology - now available from several leading window manufacturers - are more energy efficient, to help you save money on heating and cooling costs.

The bottom line? Windows with TPS technology can help you reduce heating and cooling loss by 12 percent compared to metal spacers, meaning less energy is required to heat or cool your home or building. With 57 percent improved insulation right at the window's edge, TPS reduces cold and heat drafts penetrating the room.

TPS offers outstanding protection against argon gas leakage (0.1% per year) and is at least ten times more efficient than other warm edge spacers. Argon gas is used to reduce heat loss in sealed window units by slowing down convection inside the air space between the glass panes. TPS provides a 360o seal of protection against leakage of argon gas to help maintain long-lasting quality.

Temperature Profile

TPS delivers an even temperature profile for a window lowering energy usage.

TPS technology has strong adhesion and great elasticity, which helps lower moisture transmission and reduce gas permeability. By forming a strong and flexible seal, windows contribute to greater comfort and more efficient energy usage.

ADCO Global, a BASF customer and manufacturer that produces Thermoplastic Spacers (TPS), is a certified Energy Star® Partner Company. To learn about ADCO Global and TPS, click here.
