Publication paper coating
BASF high-performance pigments offer coated woodfree paper manufacturers solutions that optimize paper performance and appearance. These cost-effective pigments, available in a wide range of product grades (see below), are designed especially to impart whiteness, brightness and opacity while enhancing ink holdout and print and sheet gloss. The result is coated paper ideally suited for publishing magazines, brochures, book covers and high-end advertising inserts.
Glossing grades
BASF glossing-grade pigments, such as Ultra Gloss® 90 and Miragloss™ family, provide exceptional brightness and whiteness, increase gloss and provide good ink holdout and superior high-shear viscosity for high-speed operations.
Standard grades
BASF Lustra® coating pigment allows papermakers to achieve extremely cost-effective brightness, opacity and coverage. It also provides excellent high-shear viscosity, which enhances runnability and finishing. Other BASF standard-grade pigments include Ultra White® 90, Ultra COTE® and HT® .
Engineered grades
In the engineered grades, Miraclipse™ PG pigment provides excellent fiber coverage, smoothness and printability while reducing the need for plastic pigment and other expensive coating ingredients. Other engineered-grade pigments, such as our Mirana™ products, are specially designed to deliver exceptional hiding, sheet opacity, brightness and printability.
Calcined grades
In the calcined grades, BASF Luminex™ pigment is proven to outperform more expensive hydrated alumina and precipitated silicate. This specialty pigment provides a high degree of light scattering to impart opacity at relatively low levels, making it extraordinarily cost-efficient. Another BASF calcined-grade pigment, Ansilex® 93, is a high-brightness, low-abrasion pigment used to improve brightness, opacity, blister resistance and ink receptivity without losing sheet or print gloss.
MSP grades
For metering size press (MSP) coating applications, Mirafilm™ pigments deliver improved print gloss and snap, high brightness and opacity and good fiber coverage at low coat weight. Mirafilm pigments also provide excellent runnability
