Industrial coating

19A.jpgProduct differentiation, performance and cost are key drivers in industrial coating. In applications from machinery, equipment and metal furniture finishing to wood and composite board finishing, sheet, strip and coil coatings on metals, metal decorating (e.g., can and container coating) and varnishes for electrical insulation, BASF special effect pigments, color pigments and high-performance mineral additives accomplish both.

For example, Rightfitting™ organic color pigments are custom formulated to achieve the right color space and right properties at the right cost/performance level. Rightfitting products such as 6075 Red, 6205 Yellow and 6120 Orange offer good bake stability and lightfastness in masstone at an economical price. BASF special effect pigments, such as Mearlin® luster pigments, Lumina™ colors, Firemist™ and Mearlite® pigments, actually manipulate light energy to create visual excitement and dramatically improve the look of industrial finishes. Visual effects gained using these products include luster, dimensionality, depth, opalescence, pearlescence and other unique characteristics. The finished products really stand out and create excitement in the marketplace.

Beyond economic color solutions and special visual effects, BASF performance additive product lines work to improve and/or maintain industrial coating performance at competitive pricing levels. Some, like Attagel® attapulgite products, are used as thixotropic thickening agents. Others, like ASP® hydrous aluminosilicates, extend titanium dioxide while improving color, gloss, dispersion, stain resistance, and enamel holdout. Satintone® calcined extender pigments provide titanium dioxide extension with lower sheen and higher abrasion resistance. Still others, such as Translink® extenders, are designed to economically increase coating strength and durability.
