| HDO® 1,6-Hexanediol is a valuable
intermediate for the chemical industry. It has applications in a variety
of polymer syntheses and is also used in the synthesis of specialty
chemicals. This linear diol contains two primary hydroxyl groups which
are terminally located. This configuration results in a rapid and
simultaneous reaction in the formation of numerous di-substituted
products.
HDO® 1,6-Hexanediol is used in the production of polyesters
for polyurethane elastomers, coatings, adhesives and polymeric plasticizers.
In these end use areas, it contributes significantly to many high
performance characteristics, such as hydrolytic stability, high flexibility,
good adhesion and surface hardness.

| Applications |
The most important fields of application for HDO®
1,6-Hexanediol are the manufacture of: |
| Polyurethanes |
| Polyurethanes based on HDO® 1,6-Hexanediol
are characterized by resistance to hydrolysis, good mechanical properties,
low glass transition temperature and dry grip. In addition, 1,6-Hexanediol
offers the ability to develop a wide range of tailored products for
various standard and specialty applications. Overall, the performance
of HDO® 1,6-Hexanediol-based products is far above competing
materials.

| Polyester Coatings |
| HDO® 1,6-Hexanediol gives an excellent balance
of surface hardness and flexibility (impact resistance) to coatings.
It also improves gloss retention and adhesion to a variety of substrates.
HDO® 1,6-Hexanediol-based polyester coatings exhibit excellent
light stability and hydrolysis resistance, resulting in excellent
weatherability.
