SAVANT™
… the catalyst for a new, advanced generation of commercial carpet.
A
bold innovation in carpet fiber
SAVANT™,
the French word meaning "genius" is the brand name for BASF's
exciting, new, nylon carpet fiber. Not since BASF developed and introduced
the first solution-dyed nylon yarn in 1976 has there been as notable an
innovation in carpet fiber.
"SAVANT™
is an entirely new fiber that will be the catalyst for a new, advanced
generation of commercial carpet," says Ian Wolstenholme, Sales and
Marketing Manager for BASF's carpet fiber products. "Innovative breakthroughs
of this magnitude in our industry are few and far between. BASF has always
been an industry leader in technological advancements and SAVANT™ reaffirms
that leadership position."
Unlike
conventionally-dyed carpet that is protected from staining by a topical
treatment, SAVANT™ has built-in stain resistance that prevents stains
from penetrating the carpet. Additionally, this smart new fiber surpasses
other premium branded yarn systems by reducing maintenance requirements
in terms of labor and cleaning agents. From an environmental standpoint,
SAVANT™ is preferable because it is made within a closed-loop system utilizing
a high level of recycled polymer and qualifies for the BASF 6ix AgainŽ
recycling program.
Two
years in the making, the development of SAVANT™ began with a series of
town hall meetings across the country that included architects, designers,
specifiers, and carpet mill representatives. BASF asked these groups to
compile a "wish list" for the most desired characteristics of
the ultimate carpet fiber, ranking those elements in order of importance.
BASF listened well, and came away with a very clear picture of the most
important characteristics. BASF's R&D team, which had been working
on a family of new, state-of-the-art fibers, met the challenge head-on
by providing a fiber with unsurpassed stain resistance coupled with complete
color flexibility and superior ozone fastness.
