BASF names Derek Fairclough as Senior Vice President, Dispersions & Pigments in North America

FLORHAM PARK, NJ, April 27, 2011 -- BASF has appointed Derek Fairclough as Senior Vice President, Dispersions & Pigments, in North America. He is based in Charlotte, NC.

Fairclough joined BASF in 2009 as part of the Ciba Corporation acquisition. He was named Senior Vice President, Paper Chemicals, in North America in June 2009. In that position, Fairclough was responsible for leading the Paper Chemicals business, which was established at the time of the acquisition.

Prior to joining BASF, Fairclough was a member of the Global Leadership Board of Ciba Inc., and served as Global Head of Ciba’s Paper Chemicals Business from 2006-2009. He joined Ciba in 1987 and has worked in a number of manufacturing and technical operations leadership roles.

Fairclough earned a Bachelor of Science (Honors) First Class in Applied Chemistry from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland.

The Dispersions & Pigments business Fairclough will be leading provides a broad portfolio of resins, binders, latex, pigments and effect pigments, colorants, specialty additives, minerals, and systems to meet specific applications and customer needs in a variety of markets, including adhesives, sealants, fiber bonding, carpet, nonwovens, architectural coatings, construction, and asphalt modification.
