BASF to present three papers and introduce new pigment for plastics
FLORHAM PARK, NJ, October 20, 2009 – BASF will feature its broad range of colorants and additives for plastics at the CAD RETEC 2009 Conference, hosted by the Society of Plastic Additives’ Color & Appearance Division, Oct. 18-20, in Savannah, Georgia.
The company will showcase in its booth number one the products and technologies it offers that will allow the plastics industry to:
- Create vibrant colors and eye-catching special effects;
- Keep plastics cool even under intense sun conditions;
- Meet FDA compliance for food contact applications;
- Maintain color and physical properties longer in end use applications.
In addition to having a booth at this event, BASF scientists will also present several key papers at this event:
Monday, Oct. 19:
- At 8:45 a.m., Tad Finnegan, Head of the Plastic Additives Technical Center for North America, will discuss “Heavy Metal Free Color Solutions for Durable Polyolefin Applications.” This paper will cover a methodology for replacing heavy-metal based pigments in plastics that are used outdoors without sacrificing the performance of the system.
- At 2 p.m., Doreen Becker, Technical Marketing Manager for Effect Pigments, will cover “New Color and Effect Pigments and Trends for Plastics,” highlighting new developments in chromatic and effect pigments and ties them to the current color trends within the world of plastics.
- At 5:10 p.m., in the New Technology Forum, Michael Edison, Market Development Manager, Plastic Additives, will introduce “Sicopal® Orange K 2430,” a new inorganic orange colorant for plastics from BASF.
Tuesday, Oct. 20:
- 11 a.m., Steve Goldstein, Technical Manager, Performance Chemicals, will discuss “Heat Buildup Testing,” covering the test methodology for heat buildup in plastics and evaluates how pigments influence this heat buildup.
