BASF introduces new silica scale inhibitor
Mazon® S prevents silica build-up while maximizing system efficiency

FLORHAM PARK, NJ, August 19, 2009 -- BASF Corporation will introduce Mazon® S technology at the Association of Water Technologies (AWT) Annual Convention and Exposition, Aug. 26-28, 2009, at the Westin Diplomat Resort in Hollywood, Florida.  Visitors to BASF booth 703-705 will see BASF’s water treatment portfolio, including the Aseptrol® CW technology.

Mazon S technology provides excellent silica scale inhibition, which allows water cooling systems to operate at increased cycles of concentration.  In comparison to other commercially available products in established laboratory procedures, Mazon S technology has shown excellent silica stabilization.  The ability to increase cycles of concentration could reduce the amount of make-up water and disposal, improving system efficiency.

Attendees will also learn about the Aseptrol CW technology, which is a unique delivery form of the BASF Cooling Water Biocide.   Registered with the U.S. EPA, Aseptrol CW is a reliable, easy-to-use delivery system that regulates precise feed of chlorine dioxide (CIO2) into small-to-medium size cooling water systems. The system consists of a low-maintenance feeder and pre-packaged material that deliver CIO2 when and where it is needed.

“BASF can now offer two unique solutions for cooling water treatment needs,” said Hans Hummel, Water Treatment Marketing Manager at BASF.  “Mazon S technology provides superior silica scale inhibition allowing for improved performance of a cooling system, while Aseptrol CW technology represents an all-in-one biocide treatment program.  Aseptrol CW provides an antimicrobial effect that both prevents and remediates biofilm from cooling water surfaces critical to heating, ventilation and air conditioning applications, an important criteria for effective management of Legionella."

Aseptrol technology is a comprehensive approach to managing microbial species and preventing biofilm formation.  It has the added unique benefit of removing previously formed biofilm deposits, while eliminating the capital cost and inconvenience of on-site ClO2 generators.  The Aseptrol CW technology will help ensure accurate dosing of CIO2, while improving operator safety and handling.

Overall, Aseptrol products rely on patented technology to release high yield CIO2 when exposed to water.  The BASF product line includes the only EPA approved purifier for emergency drinking water, as well as formulations for disinfection, deodorization, and cleaning.
