BASF sponsors Earth Day event at EDCO Park, Evans City
14th annual community celebration promotes environmental awareness

EVANS CITY, PA, April 14, 2008 -- "Our Community, Our Earth" is the theme of the 14th Annual BASF Earth Day Celebration to be held Saturday, April 25, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., rain or shine, at EDCO Park in Evans City, located at 154 W. Main Street. The event is open to the public and free of charge, therefore the company would like to encourage the community to join their local BASF Evans City employees and help beautify the park.

The celebration will begin at 9 a.m. with a community volunteer clean-up of EDCO Park. The celebration continues at 11 a.m. and will include a variety of exhibits by local environmental groups, including the Pennsylvania CleanWays and Moraine State Park Preservation. The Butler County Humane Society, Evans City Food Cupboard and The Lighthouse Foundation will also be present and accepting donations. The event will also feature refreshments and youth activities sponsored by The Home Depot®, and Eat’n Park cookies and face painting.

"As a company that makes products better, BASF also has a strong commitment to making our environment and the communities we are living in better," said Mike Pcolinski, Vice President for BASF’s Inorganics Business in North America and Site Manager of the Evans City site. "For 13 years, we have been working with various members of the Evans City community on our Earth Day event. It is great to see our community come together to beautify EDCO Park."

A highlight of this year's event will once again be the display of posters created by fifth grade students from Evans City Middle School featuring the Earth Day theme. The winners, who will be announced at an assembly held at Evans City Middle School the week prior to the event, will receive ribbons and a gift card. The overall winning design will also be featured on this year's official BASF Earth Day T-shirt, which will be given to all fifth grade students.

BASF employees will be on hand at the Earth Day event to answer questions about the company’s Evans City operations. BASF’s Evans City site employs approximately 135 people. Products from the site are used mainly in the pharmaceutical industry, and are also used in applications like agrochemicals, surfactants, adhesives, polymers, electronics, flavors, fragrances and automobiles.
