GEISMAR, LA, December 19, 2008 – Employees of BASF’s Geismar site recently presented the Ascension Parish Battered Women’s Program with a check for $20,000 that will help the organization maintain and expand its services.
The $20,000 was raised by BASF’s 10th annual Charity Golf Scramble tournament, which was held Oct. 17 at The Lakes Course at Pelican Point Golf Club in Gonzales. Since the event’s inception in 1999, BASF, its employees and the tournament’s sponsors have raised more than $160,000 for the program.
More than 125 golfers participated in the sold-out event, which was sponsored by more than 60 local businesses and organizations.
“We want to thank everyone in the Ascension Parish community who helped make our tournament and fundraising effort such a success,” said Brenda Roussel, an employee at BASF’s Geismar site and chairperson of BASF’s employee tournament committee. “We are pleased to be presenting a significant sum to this worthwhile organization for the10th consecutive year.”
The Ascension Parish Battered Women’s Program’s services include individual, group and phone counseling, emergency planning, and information and emotional support for women in need.
