FLORHAM PARK, NJ, August 21, 2008 – BASF today announced that Atlanta, Georgia-based homeland security company, Carbon Motors, has chosen the Coatings Division of BASF as its partner for the development of film chemicals and processes to be used on the thermoplastic exterior skin panels of the Carbon E7 Law Enforcement Patrol Vehicle, currently being designed and engineered by Carbon Motors. Terms of the agreement were undisclosed.
“We are delighted to work with the team at BASF Coatings who have been at the forefront of research and development of automotive film finishes for many years, said Alan J. Bratt, Executive Vice President and Chief Production Officer, Carbon Motors Corporation. “It is unusual for an OEM to enter into a partnership with suppliers who will not be in their first tier, but we thought it important to establish a relationship with BASF to ensure our exterior film suppliers and panel molders understand the technology we want to use, and can proceed with confidence knowing they have BASF resources for support as we develop the E7 exterior.” Mr. Bratt also stated that using the BASF UV-cured film technology allows for the coating of a vehicle with minimal cost and environmental impact.
“We are thrilled to be working with Carbon Motors on its new E7 vehicle, said Jay Baker, Group Vice President of BASF’s Coatings Division. “Carbon Motors is exactly the type of innovative and environmentally minded company that can take full advantage of the technological capabilities of BASF. The E7 will be the first vehicle to use UV cure film technology on the entire exterior surface.”
Production of the Carbon Motors E7 Law Enforcement Patrol Vehicle is expected to begin in the 2012 timeframe.
