Product Risk Characterization

BASF evaluates the hazards and intended uses of it products, in support of our Responsible Care® commitments through our Product Risk Characterization process (PRC). The PRC helps us ensure progress towards sustainable development goals within BASF and helps our customers be successful. BASF’s process is based on determining the physical and chemical hazards of our products, the toxicological profile of our products and product families and understanding the intended uses. By examining these criteria, BASF then can determine the appropriate risk management measures to take and develop appropriate information for stakeholder discussions.

Risk management measures can include, but are not limited to, targeted, customer-specific training, product safety and handling brochures and CDs, use limitations and special packaging/logistics/ security plans. When new data are available or new uses are discovered, the process may be repeated. A flow chart of our process is shown here.
