BASF
makes your Powertrain and Under the Hood applications better
BASF's diverse range of Engineering Plastics are excellent for Powertrain
and Under the Hood applications. Since the creation of the world's first
plastic manifold for Porsche in 1972, BASF has been making plastic manifold
designs better and pioneering new automotive plastics technologies. BASF
plastics can be found in almost every part of the automotive manufacturing
process from the engine block to the cooling and ventilation systems,
transmissions and front end modules. BASF offers a complete line of engineering
plastics, from Ultramid® Nylons, Nypel® Recycled
Nylon, Ultraform® Acetal, to Ultradur® (PBT) and Petra® (PET)
Thermoplastic Polyesters, and high-heat Ultrason® S&E polysulfone
and polyethersulfone. BASF has a brand and grade that will meet your application
needs.Use BASF plastics in your next Powertrain or Under the Hood application
and experience the BASF commitment to material quality, design, sales
and technical support.

Ultramid®
Nylon (polyamide)
In the Powertrain and Under the Hood areas, Ultramid® nylon
can be used for parts in the engine block and in engine lubrication
such as camshaft timing gears, chain guides, toothed belt covers,
air intake modules, engine covers, oil sumps, oil filter housings,
valve bonnet and cylinder head covers. Parts and housings for cooling
and ventilation systems such as radiator tanks and heat exchangers
for heating purposes, water expansion tanks, hot-water control valves,
thermostat housings, fans, fan cowls and frames. Parts in the fuel
supply system such as fuel filter housings, fuel reservoirs and
lines.
Rugged Ultramid® resins perform in a range of demanding under-the-hood
applications, including air management system ductwork, throttle
bodies, air cleaners, resonators, air intake manifolds and rocker
covers. Ultramid® resin’s natural resistance to hydrocarbons
help vehices meet LEV II requirements in fuel filler doors and housings,
fuel tanks, caps and lines, vapor lines, fuel rails and carbon canisters. |

Nypel®
Recycled Nylon (polyamide)
Nypel recycled nylon injection molding compounds, based on select,
post-industrial, recycled polyamide (nylon) feedstocks, are specially
formulated to combine quality, performance and processability. Nypel
provides molders, converters and automotive manufacturers an environmentally
friendly, cost-efficient material that is a reliable source of recycled
content for the end vehicle in such applications as fans, shrouds,
brackets and air cleaners. |

 |
Ultradur®
PBT (thermoplastic polyester)
Ultradur® polyester is rigid, impact-resistant, dimensionally
stable, heatproof, weather-resistant and resistant to fuels and lubricants.
These properties have made Ultradur® an indispensable material
in many applications in modern automotive engineering. |
| |
 |
Ultraform®
Acetal (polyoxymethylene)
Applications in the powertrain and under the hood area include fuel
tank modules, tank level sensors, gasoline pump housings, and roll-over
valves. |
| |
 |
Petra®
PET (thermoplastic polyester)
Petra thermoplastic polyester is based on 100% post-consumer and post-industrial
polyethylene terephthalate (PET), providing molders, converters and
automotive manufacturers a high-performance engineering material that
is a reliable source of recycled content in such applications as wiper
tubs, front-end modules and numerous automotive electrical/electronic
components. |
| |
 |
Ultrason®
PSU/PES (polysulfone/polyethersulfone)
Powertrain and Under the Hood applications include fuse holders, circuit
breakers, electric connectors for transmissions and electronic engine
components. |
