Design Capabilities: Testing Services
BASF Engineering Plastics possesses extensive analytical and
mechanical, standard and customized testing capabilities. We
have access to a broad range of analytical services, including
nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) imaging and gas chromatography/mass
spectrometry. We conduct both industry-standard and industry-specific
testing, including ISO, ASTM, Automotive Weathering and Underwriters
Laboratories flame testing. Our laboratories are accredited
to ISO 17025 by the American Association of Laboratory Accreditation.
In addition to standardized testing, BASF Engineering Plastics
can perform customized testing.
End-Use Testing
Our end-use testing lab is a torture chamber for plastic parts,
products and assemblies. This is where we simulate 100,000 miles
worth of wear on an automotive component; the day-in day-out
impact of gravel and sand on a gas-powered edger's housing;
or 50 years of exposure to water, fuel, oil and blazing sunlight
on an outboard motor housing. We evaluate:
•
Chemical exposure
•
Moisture resistance
•
Electrical properties
•
Life cycle performance
•
Wear, scratching and
marking
At BASF Engineering Plastics, our testing begins in the lab
and goes beyond its four walls. End-use testing complements
laboratory testing and establishes performance in the real world,
working under actual conditions, but in a controlled environment
with measurable results. We're not bound by existing tests.
We look at a customer's requirements and, if a standard test
to measure the required performance doesn't exist, we devise
our own test to validate performance in the real-world conditions
the product will face. Real parts demand real tests.
