Community Awareness & Emergency Response (CAER)

We are accountable to the public, who has the right to understand the risks and benefits of what we do and to have their input heard.

We respect all people.

BASF Canada recognizes our responsibility to the communities in which we operate. Under the Responsible CareŽ mandate, we ensure communities have the same information as our employees about our sites and our production processes. We respond openly to questions and concerns about our products and operations.

Community Awareness

BASF Canada manufacturing sites implement the following programs to keep the community informed of their operations:

Facilitate regular interaction and visits by local fire department and Emergency Response town officials
Regularly host open houses and conduct plant tours
Communicate with our neighbours through letters, pamphlets, advertising and press releases
Communicate worst case and worst probable case scenarios to communities and identify our emergency response plans for those scenarios

In addition, we routinely coordinate the following programs in the communities in which we operate:

Community Awareness & Emergency Response (CAER) Committees

CAER committees, composed of representatives from chemical user groups, Municipal and Provincial authorities and the police department work cooperatively to:

Respond to community concerns related to the operation of our facilities
Continuously reduce the risks to the environment and educate the community and our employees of these risks
Integrate our emergency response plans with the existing community response plans.

Community Advisory Panels (CAP)

Community Advisory Panels provide an opportunity for BASF Canada employees and members of the community to meet on a regular basis to share information about our operations. Within these panels, community members can voice any questions and concerns, knowing that a frank and open discussion is possible. Likewise, BASF Canada can distribute pertinent information to community members about its operations, products and manufacturing sites.

Emergency Response Procedures

BASF Canada takes all precautions and preventative measures to ensure smooth, accident and incident free operations at our manufacturing sites and in the transportation of our products. If any emergency should occur, either at a production site or with our products, BASF Canada has emergency response plans that allow us to react quickly, effectively and comprehensively to any situation. These plans minimize the impact of any incident to persons, the environment and to BASF Canada operations. We will provide expertise and resources to any incidents that involve our products, as well as supervising or responding to any incident that requires our presence.

All BASF Canada customers can access our 24-hour emergency response service to ensure safe production and transportation of our materials. BASF Canada is committed to providing high quality service and leadership that meets and exceeds customer and community expectations.
