Whether in formulations made of thermoplastic starch and biodegradable synthetic polymers, so-called starch blends, or as a mono-application in the realm of flexible films, Ecoflex® can offer customers completely biodegradable packaging. Ecovio®, a blend of Ecoflex® and polylactic acid from corn, can be used to extrude biodegradable films without any further admixtures or preparation. Moreover, it can be used to create tailor-made blends.

BASF Ecoflex and Ecovio offer innovative, sustainable solutions for Open Field and Greenhouse Growing operations. Ecoflex and Ecovio have a similar structure to naturally occurring polymers and are degraded by microorganisms and their enzymes. Microorganisms therefore process Ecoflex and Ecovio molecules just like the macromolecules present in nature and in soil, leaving behind carbon dioxide, water and biomass. Ecoflex and Ecovio fulfill the requirements of the US ASTM D6400 standard for compostable and biodegradable polymers.
